Since 1992, The City of Bellingham's Parks Volunteer Program has been supporting the Parks Department’s mission by engaging community members of all ages, as individuals and groups, in environmental restoration, enhancing parks, trails and open space, and educating citizens about responsible choices.

Our Programs include:

  • Weekly public Saturday Community Work Parties – Offered September through June/July, mainly focused on ecological restoration in parks throughout Bellingham.
  • Community Days of Service Events around key service days - Make A Difference Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Earth Day
  • School Stewardship Program - Partnering with local schools to provide environmental education lessons and service-learning in both the classroom and the parks.
  • Parks Stewards Program - Supporting individuals who adopt a park, trail, dog waste station, or open space.

We often partner with many other local organizations to bring you these events, such as the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association, WWU Community Service Center, WWU LEAD, City of Bellingham's Public Works Natural Resources, Wild Whatcom, Recreation Northwest, Washington Trails Association, Whatcom Land Trust, Whatcom Million Trees Project, Washington Native Plant Society, North Cascades Audubon Society, and many more!
