Join the more than 1 billion people worldwide who celebrate Earth Day by joining the City of Bellingham, WWU LEAD, Whatcom Million Trees Project, and Washington Trails Association for our annual Earth Day Community Work Party on Saturday, April 22nd from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Sehome Arboretum.
Together, we will be assisting LEAD's efforts in restoring habitat in a small section of the Sehome Arboretum by removing invasives and planting native trees and shrubs using the Miyawaki Method to re-create the conditions needed for a native forest to grow in decades, rather than centuries!
This event will conclude with free pizza donated by Papa Johns and closing remarks. The work party will be followed by Hannah Lewis, the author of Mini-Forest Revolution, sharing knowledge about The Miyawaki Method.
All ages, abilities, and experience levels are welcome!
Here are some quick reminders about our youth liability release form:
- Unaccompanied youth under age 18 must provide a Youth Liability Release Form signed and completed by their legal guardian.
- This liability release form can be completed online when registering or you can bring a signed paper copy to the event.
- Participants under age 14 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
You need: Weather-appropriate clothing, long pants, closed-toe shoes, snacks, and a full water bottle.
We provide: Tools, gloves, instruction, and light refreshments, including free Wood’s coffee and Papa Johns pizza, which were both generously donated for this event.
We will be working on the north end of the Sehome Arboretum near the intersection of E. Ivy Street and Billy Frank Jr. Street. Parking is available in WWU’s 7G parking lot or along nearby streets. See the map below for details.
